Play in the snow
Everyone thinks of Mount Rainier as the iconic backdrop of Seattle. You can see it from Olympia too, but that is not the photo that everyone posts on their blogs, shares on Facebook, or emails in chain mails. Mount Rainier is a somewhat scenic, leisurely, two hour drive from Olympia. Perfect for a day trip!
The climb to the summit, hikes around Paradise, and the park in general are seen as a summer destination. However as you will see in the downloaded National Parks Service PDF, Paradise has a “snow play” area. It is the only part of the park that allows for sliding and sledding. At various times there is snowshoeing as well, some hikes lead by rangers even.
