Fall Arts Walk Olympia | October 7th and 8th 2011

One of our favorite semi-annual events has to be Olympia’s Arts Walk. It is when Olympia comes alive for a Friday and Saturday (in this case Friday October 7th and Saturday October 8th 2011) bubbling over with personalities, and visually astounding us with a variety of artists.

If you love art and you are anywhere near Olympia this really is a great place to be! One of our favorite places, the Yoga Loft, has the cover artist of the program installing a piece of art in their cavernous ceiling space.

The City of Olympia’s information on this event can be found here

For fantastic details such as maps and vendor and artist information see the Arts Walk Web site.

Seattle Space Needle Turns Fifty.

The Seattle Space Needle turns fifty this year. Built for Seattle’s World Fair, it has become an icon synonymous with Seattle. It is in ever movie about Seattle (it even gets moved around graphically to better “fit” the skyline). It is a must see attraction for visitors to Washington. It has a interesting history. It is candelabra for Seattle’s new years fireworks. Some would say it is the jewel in Seattle’s emerald crown!

Seattle is an easy hour drive during non-peek periods. That means if you take off from Olympia after you have a great breakfast, you can easily miss the traffic, tour the Space Needle, maybe even squeeze in the Experience Music Project (EMP), or lunch at Pike Place Market, and be back on the road beating evening traffic back to Olympia. Your less hectic, small town base for your adventures in Washington!

My friends over at Eimaliens have had a discussion on the concept of basing yourself in Olympia to explore the region. Lets hope that leads to more people catching on!
